There are songs I like better, but I have to go with "Don't You Forget About Me". We are the Forgotten. The song comes from a film about high school kids "latch keyed" in a high school library (normally, you'd expect the person administering the detention to be in there with them).
It may not be the best song ever produced, but it is the most Gen X song I can think of (without going to "Dancing With Myself" by, of course, Generation X π€£ ... but the Simple Minds song also mentions dancing alone).
Definitely Free Birdβ¦ but also The Mamas and The Papas ( California Dreaminβ), or the Eagles Hotel Californiaβ¦ anything by Pink Floydβ¦The Policeβ¦David Bowieβ¦ it was such a wide range of music back then!
One that I loved is Only You by the Flying Pickets. That was excellent. And Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves, not to mention 99 Luftballoons.
In the middle of the night I woke up remembering the other one I loved - Life in a Northern Town. Canβt remember the band. But this was a great tune.
oh how I wish I still had that cassette mix tape I made by doing that with so many songs in the 1980s. It would be scratchy, and have background noise, and be cut late into the song and cut too long after the song was overβ¦but it would be a cool little relic of my 13yo self!

Pretty much nailed it for me!
Thank you! I added to my Apple Music πΆ
Yay! Enjoy!
So glad you posted this Jason! I remember them saying someone had compiled them but forgot to go look for it until now. Canβt wait to listen today!!

To me, those are songs I grew up with but didnβt identify with as βmy own.β But I loved them all!
Iβm a Gemini, so maybe thatβs why they were all βmy ownβπ
Iβm just thinking about the timeframe. Most of those came out when I was really too young to know what was going on
Are you calling me old? Should I take that personal?ππ Just kidding !
My knees would like a word
π€£π€£ my back screams louder!
Thank you for putting in the effort to compile and sharing with all of us. This is great!
Thanks so much!
Fabulous

The Dream Academy!
Ahh yes.
Great suggestions!
Iβm pretty sure I have most of these already - but will double check.
This is brilliant! Going to listen now.
I canβt believe that We Are the World didnβt make the list. That was my second choice.
OMG Teri.. I used to sit by my stereo and wait for it to come on the radio so I could record it to cassette!
